This year's mission was held June 19-26 and was the 8th year of the Foundation mission programs. For 2010, TPMF expanded the San Miguel mission to work with additional Government clinics, villages and orphanages. Dr. Don Falknor of Houston, Texas reported a record 630 patients were treated during the week and 21 surgeries, with 20 surgeries put on a wait list for the next trip. Also, shoes and socks were provided to over 100 children in orphanages. Some children had never had an enclosed shoe in the right size until this June. The smiles on their faces are priceless.
The experience is so rewarding for all DPMS, residents and families that attend. Dr. Scott McKinney, Mission Co-Chair, shares that predominantly, flat foot, club foot, fungus, ingrown nails and other deformities are treated. Most patients in the villages do not see a doctor except once a year and have no access to care. Thirty volunteers and their families made the June 2010 mission a huge success.
A special thank you to the mission trip sponsors: BAKO Pathology, Dr. Comfort, Osteomed , Eppointments Plus , Mile High Orthotics & Formula 3.
The next mission trip is planned for June 18-26, 2011 to San Miguel de Allende and the area. Volunteers are approved under a Mexican government permit and fly into Leon, Mexico. Transport is provided on main days of arrival to San Miguel, which is a 1.5 hour drive from Leon into the mountains. The mission includes providing clinic services at several locations and area villages, as well as surgical treatment at the government hospital. In addition the mission supports 3 orphanages with needs ad new shoes each year. San Miguel de Allende is a historical city and offers many optional activities outside the mission hours Volunteers are be responsible for all their own expenses and the trip can be a business or charitable tax write off. CONTACT krista.richter@yahoo.com to volunteer or donate.
The clinic needs your donations of time and equipment so they may continue to provide free surgical treatment to children and adults in this under-served area. All donations - in kind or financial - are tax deductible to TPMA 501 C3 and receipts are provided.
